Improvised designs among Persian rugs are exclusive to gabbeh weavers and perhaps represent one of the more recent approaches in gabbeh weaving.gabbehs with designs improvised by the weavers sometimes have little if anything to do with traditional designs and conventions.in these rugs the weaver tries ti free herself from limitions of traditions and like modern painters bases her work entirely on her own personal thoughts and imagination.perhaps weaving improvised designs could also be defined as a protest against traditional designs.the woman who have madebthese gabbehs have perhaps tried to liberate themselves from the framework of the traditional designs and like modern artists have slighted traditional designs by distorting them.considering the short life of gabbehs it could be imagined that these gabbehs are new phenomenon and were made in the last fifty years when woman begin to seek more freedom..in weaving it is not easy to execute a design without o model or a guideline.unlike painters who often first put down their designs on paper or canvas and can alter them as they wish during the course of their work a weaver of o complicated traditional design often needs a model for the design and then executes it knot by knot and row by row and has no way of retracing her steps to make later changes.
